This committee is an investigative committee for the House of Representatives. It was originally created to investigate the supposed disloyalty of private citizens, public employees, and organizations that they believed to have communist ties. Many of their tactics and beliefs are closely related to McCarthyism, despite the fact that he was not part of the organization. The organization went on for many years and its growing popularity and fame contributed to the fear that spread throughout the nation of communism.
