dec 7, 1941 - Attack on Pearl Harbor
Description:
This was an attack of the Japanese Imperial Air Force on the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii that is known as “a date which will live in infamy”, as it was without warning. This was the cause for the US getting involved in WWII. The attack was a preventative one by the Japanese so that the US wouldn’t interfere with their military actions in Southeast Asia. The base was attacked by 353 Japanese Aircrafts and 2,403 Americans died, 1,178 were wounded. This had a huge impact on the American public, who had largely been isolationist in the previous years. People were then in great support of getting involved in the war and almost all isolationism disappeared. The US declared war on Japan the next day and would declare war on Germany and Italy 3 days later.
