Franklin D. Roosevelt was first elected the 32 President on November 8, 1932 when he was serving as the governor of New York. He was elected in the middle of the Great Depression and immediately started working to help increase the public’s confidence. He was famous for his “fireside chats,” which were radio programs in which spoke directly to the public. He also came up with the New Deal programs which were put in place to help get the US back on its feet from the Great Depression. He was later reelected in 1936 where he was president during the first part of the second world war.
