may 17, 1954 - Brown vs Board
Description:
Brown vs Board was a case surrounding Linda Brown. Brown was a student in Topeka who was forced to attend a farther away segregated school than a much more conveniently located white school. Thurgood Marshall, who was the attorney on this case, stated that this violated the Fourteenth Amendment because it denied Brown equal protection from the laws. The Supreme Court unanimously decided that separate educational facilities were unconstitutional. On a larger scale, Brown v Board got the “separate but equal” clause of the Fourteenth Amendment removed from the Constitution.
