jul 2, 1964 - The Civil Rights Act of 1964

Description:

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended segregation in public places and banned employment discrimination. This received lots of opposition from southern members of the Congress. However it only banned discrimination based on gender or race not a disability. Disability activists began working very hard in their own states and local communities to change discriminatory policies and legislation, but very few people had heard about the Disability Rights Movement at the national level.
