aug 6, 1965 - Voting Rights Act of 1965

Description:

The Voting Rights Act tried to tear down legal barriers at the state and local levels that were preventing African Americans from voting. Signed into law in 1965 under Lyndon B. Johnson, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 banned things such as literacy tests that were used as prerequisites to voting, but only were used to keep African Americans from voting.
