-John Iliff became the first man to make use of the open range.-After buying a herd of cattle that were weak and thin due to their journey on the long drive, Iliff realised that he could raise the cattle on the Plains and they'd be worth more.
-He sold his cattle to railroad workers, miners and the government to use on reservations and made a fortune.
