may 14, 1955 - Warsaw Pact Formed

Description:

The Warsaw Pact was similar to NATO, except it was a friendship treaty between the Soviet Union and 7 of its satellite nations. Its members were the Soviet Union, Albania, Poland, Romania, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria. If one member state was attacked, the others were thus called to come to its defense. This led to the U-2 Spy Plane Incident, as the US was more curious about what the Soviet Union was doing and they attempted to get a closer look.
