On December 1st in 1955, Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her seat on a bus to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama. Parks was considered “Mother of the Civil Rights Movement” and was extremely influential in the cause. After Parks refused to sit, this helped the bus boycott movement to gain momentum and draw awareness to the injustices for African Americans. During the bus boycott movement, the bus companies were struggling and the economy took a hit because African Americans were such a large percentage of the bus riders.Added to timeline:
