aug 28, 1963 - Washington March

Description:

On August 28th, 1963 between 200,000 - 300,000 people joined in on a protest march in the US capital of Washington D.C., gathering around the Lincoln Memorial aiming to draw attention to continuing problems of inequalities faced by African Americans a century after emancipation. This event is also notable for being the day that Martin Luther King Jr. gave his historic 'I have a dream' speech.

The event resulted in MLK being able to help negotiate with the president to pass the 1964 Civil rights Act as well as helping passing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
