The Black Panthers were formed on October 15, 1966. The group was founded by two african american men named Huey Newton and Bobby Seale. The goal of the group was to protect african americans were were being harmed or discriminated against. They were armed and walked around cities starting in Oakland California, but it soon grew to other states in the US. Normally, they were known for wearing leather jackets and black berets, so everyone knew who they were when they saw him. This group lasted a long time throughout the 60s.
