Description:

On this day Adolf Hitler committed suicide along with his wife, Eva whom he married only two days before their double suicide) , and killed his dog (an Alsatian named Blondi). They committed suicide by taking a cyanide pill and then shot themselves in the head. They had locked themselves in their private room within the referbished air raid bunker that Hitler had been hiding out in.

The bodies of Hitler and Eva were cremated in the chancellery garden by the bunker survivors (as per Der Fuhrer’s orders) and reportedly later recovered in part by Russian troops. A German court finally officially declared Hitler dead, but not until 1956.
