jun 25, 2014 - Riley v. California
Description:
In this case, the Supreme Court ruled that arresting police officers need a search warrant for smartphones. When David Lee was being being arrested for an expired auto registration, police found loaded guns inside his vehicle. Upon inspection of his phone, without a warrant, they found material linking him to street gangs and a shooting. Riley was then sentenced to 15 years to life.
