apr 26, 1897 - Marie & Pierre Curie
Description:
Pierre and Marie Curie are best known for their pioneering work in the study of radioactivity, which led to their discovery of the elements radium and polonium. Marie deduced that radioactivity does not depend on how atoms are arranged into molecules, but rather that it originates within the atoms themselves. Pierre also voluntarily exposed himself to radiation to test its effects in 1900. Both were also students of Henri Becquerel.
