Who: The Nazis under the command of Adolf Hitler and the Soviet Union (Joseph Stalin)

What: Operation Barbarossa was the Nazi invasion of Western Soviet Union.

When: The invasion started Sunday, June 22, 1941 until December 5th that same year.

How: The Nazis had signed a contract with the soviets two years before saying they essentially “wouldn’t bug each other” but the Nazis turned against the soviets and started one of the biggest invasions of the war with over four million axis personnel involved in the operation. This is essentially what happened there after.

Why: The Nazi ideology was if they conquered that region of the Soviet Union they could repopulate it with Germans and Poles as slave labor for the Axis war effort and to take the Caucasus oil reserves and agricultural resources.
