"The last thing I heard was her breaking down into tears. As if someone stabbed her in the heart. It was time for me leave. Fate always frightened me. It made me feel as if I wasn’t in control of my own life. But what I have experienced has shown me that I was never in control. My fate has led me off of Earth and into the cosmos. I will never see my kids again. I’ll never watch them grow up to become leaders and men. I’ll never kiss my wife again, or make her breakfast. I will never see my family again, and I will never come to terms with that. They escorted me on the ship while the entire world watched from their homes. No one told me if our names had been released or anyone knew what we were doing. I just hoped my wife was watching. We left Earth and prepared for stasis. Everyone would sleep for several years except me. I made sure everyone was taken care of before I did anything. I escorted everyone to their living quarters, walked the pilots through the navigation system and even helped Medical administer the hibernation serum. Hours passed before the ship was cleared and I wasn’t sure how long it’d been since we had left. I sat in my room until I could no longer see Earth. I finally looked out and gazed upon what was beyond me. Forget your worldly troubles, for they are nothing in the grand scheme of things."
