aug 2, 1964 - Golf of Tonkin Resolution

Description:

In August 1946 an American ship called the USS Maddox went in close on the Vietnam territory in the Gulf of Tonkin. America and Vietnam started shooting on each other and therefore the GUlf of Tonkin Resolution was passed. It gave President Johnson a free hand to escalate the war in Vietnam without declaring war.
