Description:
On May 1, 1960, an American U-2 plane was shot down while its pilots conducted espionage over the Soviet Union. The USSR not only shot down the plane, but also captured the pilot, Francis Gary Powers. President Dwight D. Eisenhower was forced to admit to the Soviets that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had been flying spy missions over the USSR for several years.
