Description:

The Manhattan Project was a secret endeavor to create the first atomic bomb before the Germans would. President Roosevelt authorized the formation of the Manhattan project on December 28, 1942. The project was named for Columbia University's location, Manhattan, New York. During the project, the U.S. military teamed up with the best minds of the scientific community. The Manhattan Project cost the U.S. over two billion dollars in just four years. One positive, was that it employed over 120,000 Americans.
