apr 15, 1912 - The RMS Titanic sinks

Description:

On April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic and her sister ship, the RMS Olympic, were sailing across the North Atlantic Ocean in opposite directions, with the Olympic sailing from New York and the Titanic sailing from England. Both ships were considered luxury cruise ships, and were the largest of their kind. Just before midnight, the Titanic hit an iceberg and began to sink. The Olympic was 580 miles away from the Titanic, and was not able to arrive in time to help. About 675 passengers were saved from the accident. but more than 1,500 people died. The accident went down in history as an example of how safety precautions should be taken. The Titanic did not have enough lifeboats to save all 2,200 of its passengers, which ultimately led to peril. Since the Titanic's sinking, new laws have been implemented regarding the safety measures on water vessels.
