Tlatilco (Valley of Mexico)
Description:
Most of the tlatilco figurines depicted women w an emphasis on wide hips, spherical upper thighs, pinched waist, elaborate hairstyles, and (most interestingly) two heads. This particular figurine is rare b/c it shows a single head with two mouths, two noses, and three eyes. The prevalence of two heads is theorized to be due to the tlatilco people’s interest in the idea of duality.
