Description:
Hardliners in the Soviet Union attempted to stage a coup in a last attempt to maintain communist rule. But millions of Russians led by Yeltsin, rallied in the streets of Moscow in support of Gorbachev, the coup fell apart. Afterward, Communist party lost power, Soviet Union disintegrated in to 15 independent republics. Boris Yeltsin became the new leader of the largest republic.
