feb 5, 1937 - FDR Court Packing Scandal Feb. 5, 1937

Description:

On February 5, 1937, Roosevelt announced his plan to expand the Supreme Court to as many as 15 judges. Critics immediately accused him of trying to "pack" the court to try to neutralize Supreme Court justices who were hostile to his New Deal. During the previous two years, several key pieces of the New Deal legislation had been struck down on the grounds that the laws delegated an unconstitutional amount of authority to the executive branch and the federal government.
