Description:

He wanted to fix the economy, and he realized that the Soviet Union could not compete to the western countries. He wanted to work with Reagan; more open. He believed in glasnost- "a new openness" which opened the gates to rebellions against Soviet domination, and perestroika- reforming the Soviet system which fostered a challenge to communist rule
