Print blocking was actually first done by Chinese monks, about 600 years before Gutenberg made the first mechanized printing press. Gutenberg made casts of moveable type blocks out of various metals such as antimony, lead, and tin. He even used his own ink made of soot and Linseed oil.Added to timeline:
