feb 12, 1809 - Charles Darwin / Russel Wallace (1809-1913)
Description:
Darwin and Wallace independently conceived of a natural, even observable way for life to change. Darwin called this process natural selection. While Darwin was formulating his theory of natural selection and amassing evidence, Wallace was exploring the wildlife of South Africa and Asia. Wallace later supplied Darwin with birds for his studies and decided to seek Darwin's help to help publish his own ideas of evolution. He sent Darwin his theory in 1858, and to Darwin's shock, it nearly replicated his theory. In the end, Charles Darwin was the one given the name the father of evolution.
