jun 20, 1789 - The Tennis Court Oath

Description:

When the deputies of the Third Estate, the commoners, realised that they would always be outvoted at the Estates-General by the First and Second Estates, they formed a National Assembly on 17th June, When they were locked out of their usual meeting room on the 20th June, the National Assembly moved to the nearby tennis court. The Tennis Court Oath was formed on that tennis court, which was an oath to never separate until a written constitution was established by the King. On 27th June, King Louis XVI relented and ordered the First and Second Estate to join the Third Estate in the National Assembly.
