The Battle of Fort Washington was also Great Britain and its thirteen colonies in North America during the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). The battlefield in which the British and American Forces fought during the Battle of Fort Washington was located in Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York. Hessian Lieutenant General Wilhelm von Knyphausen and a force of 3,000 Hessian mercenaries and 5,000 Redcoats lay siege to Fort Washington at the northern end and highest point of Manhattan Island. The Battle of Fort Washington ended in victory for the British.
