Description:
Positioned at the center of the entire Tenochtitlan empire. The design reflects the Mexica cosmos which had 4 parts around the navel or the universe, or axis mundi. Was approximately 90 feet high and covered in stucco. There were two staircases which accessed 2 temples which were dedicated to Tlaloc and Huitzilopochtli. Tlaloc was the deity of rain and fertility, Huitzilopochtli was associated with warfare,fire, and the sun. The Coyolxauhqui stone was located at the base of the stairs. The entire temple was made of stone and the temple was located in Mexico City, Mexico.Added to timeline:
