jan 1, 1070 - Great Serpent Mound
Description:
Mound located in Ohio, America. The head of the serpent aligns with the summer solstice sunset, the tail points to the winter solstice sunrise, may have been used for agriculture. It has been suggested that the body follows the lunar phases and equinoxes. Matches the north star and may be a depiction of a snake swallowing the sun. Could be a compass. The Fort Ancient Culture (1000-165 C.E) built the mound and erected it in 1070 C.E. It was made out of earth and was shaped into an effigy/mound.
