Description:

The U.S. had a large interest in Mexico’s oil because they wanted to mine the oil in Mexico for profits.

“Of the total US investments in Mexico in 1911 railroads represented $644,300,000, or 61.7 per cent. Mining represented $249,500,000, or 23.9 per cent of the total. Oil, the strategic value of which magnified its importance in US foreign policy toward Mexico, represented only $15,000,000, or 1.4 per cent of the total” (Skirius, “Railroad, Oil and Other Foreign Interests in the Mexican Revolution, 1911-1914”).
