aug 19, 1975 - Vietnam war ends
Description:
what began originally as a fulfilling of "duty" (to fight the spread of Communism), turned out to be the longest war in American history, a "quagmire" and the first war that America lost. It cost $118 billion, 56,000 Americans died, and it lasted 8 and a half years(Aug. 1964-June 1973). It involved "bombing the schnoodle" out of various farmers and many North Vietnamese cities, some of which happened to be Viet Cong. The U.S. dropped more tonnage of bombs on N. Vietnam than all the bombs dropped by U.S. Air force in all of World War II. The American public (especially young people) had a big influence by protesting U.S. involvement in the war. The War remains the quintessential . warning to American military leaders of the danger of getting into a military conflict that has no clear exit.
