jul 2, 1964 - Civil Rights Act

Description:

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 banned racial discrimination in most private facilities (hospitals, restaurants, theatres), strengthened the federal government's power to end segregation in schools and public facilities, and created the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Conservatives in the government attempted to filibuster the act by adding prohibition on sexual discrimination, but inadvertently advanced women's rights.
