feb 15, 1950 - Red Scare
Description:
Named such after the infamous Senator from Wisconsin, Joseph McCarthy, who fed on an existing witch hunt for communists in the government and launched his fame to new levels with ample and absurd accusations. In a Feb. 1950 Speech, McCarthy accused the Sec. Of State Dean Acheson of purposely hiring 205 communists to work in the State Department. By 1954, McCarthy's personality and power had put him in the category of a demagogue. In early 1954, he overstepped by attacking Army personnel, and his career quickly unraveled. He took the term "Red Scare" to new levels.
