sep 10, 1947 - Containment

Description:

In 1947, Truman adopted a Containment policy as part of the Truman Doctrine in order to "get tough with Russia." The doctrine of Containment was created by a young Soviet specialist, George F. Kennan. Russia had its expansionist tendencies, but the Kremlin was cautious in its movements. Kennan believed that Soviet expansion could be stemmed by containment (preventing its spread to any new territory) with firm and constant vigilance.
