jun 26, 1945 - UN Charter
Description:
The UN Charter, written in the spring of 1945, created an international organization that strongly resembled the League of Nations. One major difference that explains its success, was that the U.S. was a primary sponsor of the organization. The U.S. Senate passed the Treaty making the U.S. a member by a vote of 89 to 2. The Charter created a 5 member Security Council, giving these 5 nations (U.S., China, U.S.S.R, France & G.B.) permanent member status and a veto power. All other member nations would exert influence through the larger assembly.
