oct 10, 1940 - Battle of Britain

Description:

When Winston Churchill said: "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few" he was referring to RAF pilots who had so courageously battled the German Luftwaffe over the skies of England. The Battle of Britain (August 1940-May1941) marked the first time the Nazi war machine's advance was blocked. Significantly, it went far in motivating the Lend Lease Law. It's strategic significance is that the U.S. and Allies were able to launch D-Day from Britain rather than Iceland.
