dec 1, 1921 - Washington Conference

Description:

This was a gathering of the current powers to consider disarmament of their navies and the colonial situation in East Asia. One of the agreements (Five Powers Treaty) Committed the 3 largest navies of U.S., Great Britain and Japan to a 5:5:3 ratio in Battleships and aircraft carriers. As a concession to the Japanese, it put no restrictions on small ships and allowed Japan to continue to build its strength in East Asia, while the U.S. and Great Britain would not fortify their positions in East Asia. The Four Power Treaty (U.S. Britain France and Japan) reaffirmed the status quo in East Asia. The Nine Power Treaty would keep the open door in China open.
