nov 27, 1865 - Black Codes

Description:

In Nov 1865, Mississippi was the first of the former Confederate states to pass laws in an attempt to severely restrict the freed black population in the South. Other States also passed similar laws forbidding black people from voting serving on juries and even being able to rent or lease land. Many laws were designed to keep blacks powerless in labor relations. The black codes were hampered by military reconstruction but resurrected immediately following its end.
