apr 13, 1861 - Battle of Fort Sumter
Description:
April 12 & 13, 1861 Confederate cannons shelled the U.S. fort at Charleston, SC. They were reacting to President Lincoln's attempt to send provisions to the 100 or so U.S. Soldiers inside the fort. It was extremely significant in the North that the wild-eyed South Carolinians had fired the first shots and gave Lincoln the popular support to move to quell the rebellion.
