jun 1, 1940 - Japan occupies French Indochina

Description:

The completion of German conquest of France in June 1940 provided Japan an opportunity to cut off one of the two supply routes that went into China and to expand into the south Pacific. Japan demanded access to Indochina, however, Japanese troops crossed the border of Indochina without permission from the French. French negotiations were made for Indochina, but Japan demanded more, and threatened with military action. Although France agreed to the demands, Japanese troops invaded Indochina. France then surrendered.
