oct 23, 1908 - La Sucesión Presidencial en 1910

Description:

Madero wrote this book, translated as "The Presidential Succession of 1910", was a bestseller in Mexico. It stated that absolute power had been in the hands of one man (Porfirio Díaz) for so long that it deteriorated the state of Mexico.

The book highlighted the irony of Porfirio Díaz's vehement opposition to a reelection in 1871. Madero acknowledged that the Porfiriato had brought peace and economic growth to Mexico, but the loss of individual freedom, brutal treatment of an ethnic minority and excessive concessions to the United States. The book demanded a return of the Liberal 1857 Constitution of Mexico. Madero proposed organizing a Democratic Party, forcing Díaz to either run a free election or resign.
