Description:
Limited numbers of F-100Fs, as well as Naval A-6As, and A-4Es, modified to detect SAM emissions, began escorting strike aircraft to suppress enemy air defenses. The pilots used guns and unguided rockets against advance missiles with a 28 mile range.The first Wild Weasels operated before this point and attacked SAM sites after visually observing missiles fired.
