A settlement in the colony of Virginia and the first successful English settlement. It was originally settled in the hopes of finding gold, having a disproportionate amount of goldsmiths who disliked farming. In the first year, half the colonists died and after the Starving Time, a particularly gruesome winter, few were left. Finally John Smith ordered the group into different tasks.
