Protests against segregated bus terminals and the lack of enforcement of rulings such as Morgan v. Virginia and Boynton v. Virginia.The freedom riders expected much opposition as they rode integrated buses into the Deep South and encountered many violent riots and attacks. To prevent the attacks, both state police and the federal government were forced to intervene.
