aug 6, 1965 - Voting Rights Act of 1965

Description:

The main goal was to eliminate both state and local barriers that prevented African Americans to vote. The many barriers, such as literacy tests and poll taxes, were made illegal. This act was signed by President Lyndon B Johnson in August of 1965.
The impact of this event increased the proportion of voter turnout amongst blacks in the U.S., specifically in the South.
