He was about to deliver a lecture at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem, Malcolm was shot fifteen times and killed.He originally embraced a more extreme approach to achieving civil rights “by any means necessary” but after his pilgrimage to Mecca, Malcolm X embraced a less confrontational approach. Advocating for black identity, his new philosophy appealed especially to the leaders of SNCC.
