aug 9, 1965 - Voting Rights Act of 1965

Description:

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was passed by President Lyndon B. Johnson as an extension onto the work that President JFK had done in the civil rights movement. This piece of legislation granted the African American community a much easier passage to get to vote and outlawed the processes that state and local levels had been using to prevent African Americans from exercising their 15th amendment right. The act is considered to be one of the most overarching pieces of legislation for the civil rights movement in American history.
