Description:

(1758-1843)- nicknamed "schoolmaster of the Republic," because of his widely popular school reading textbooks that gave "reading lessons." Webster also compiled the first exhaustive dictionary of American English words, published in 1828. Webster's dictionary resulted in a standardized American English. The edited version of this dictionary is still with us today.
