jul 20, 1964 - Tonkin gulf resolution
Description:
TONKIN GULF RESOLUTION- LBJ pressured by competitor Barry Goldwater and others that he was too soft on communism → used alleged attack on US ships in Gulf of Tonkin as excuse for US to become combative → congress approved his resolution, allowing ‘all necessary measures’ to be taken; never officially declared war, as they’re supposed to stated in the constitution, ∴ considered illegal war
